OFFICIAL RULES OF COMPETITION & GUIDELINES

The ASID Georgia Chapter Design Excellence Awards Competition (“Competition”) is sponsored by The American Society of Interior Designers Georgia Chapter (“Chapter”), located at 351 Peachtree Hills Ave NW, Suite 504A, Atlanta, GA 30305. By entering the ASID Georgia Chapter Design Excellence Awards Competition, you – the (“Entrant”) represent and warrant that you have read, understand and agree to these OFFICIAL RULES OF COMPETITION & GUIDELINES, as follows:

  1. Entrant is the designer of this project. 
  2. Entrant agrees that no other person or entity may claim this design as their own, and that Entrant has not submitted this design on behalf of anyone else.
  3. Entrant agrees to abide by the judge’s decision as final. Entrant understands that any false or misleading information provided by the Entrant will result in disqualification from this Competition.
  4. Entrant agrees that Entrant holds all original copyrights to the materials submitted pursuant to this Agreement (or that Entrant has obtained written permission from the copyright owner to submit these materials); 
  5. Entrant agrees that should Entrant’s design project be chosen as a Gold, Silver or Bronze award winner, Entrant agrees to allow (and to cause the property owner where the project is located to allow) professional photography of the winning project to be used for future marketing, promotional, public relations, or educational purposes. In addition, and except where prohibited by law, Entrant’s entry constitutes permission from Entrant to allow the Georgia Chapter, the American Society of Interior Designers, Inc. and their respective media and agency partners to use, without additional compensation, Entrant’s name(s), workplace/business information, biographical data, and likenesses for publication on a Competition winner’s list; and/or for use in any Competition-related advertising and publicity.
  6. Entrant represents that the submitted materials do not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, trade dress, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or other intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third-party; 
  7. Entrant grants the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers  and their respective media and agency partners a non-exclusive, perpetual, transferable, royalty-free right and license to copy, reproduce, perform, display, prepare derivative works from, and distribute publicly all of Entrant’s submitted materials in both print and digital format for any purpose whatsoever including, but not limited to, use of such materials on third-party websites, social media, and other publications without additional compensation; and
  8. Entrant agrees to indemnify and hold the American Society of Interior Designers, Inc., and Chapter and their respective officers, directors, and employees (collectively “Indemnified Parties”) harmless from and against any and all losses, claims, injuries, demands, suits, costs, expenses  and damages (including reasonable attorney fees and expenses) (collectively “Claim”) that the Indemnified Parties may incur by reason of or arising out of any breach of any of my representations, my provision of false information, use of my submitted materials and/or my license grant, except to the extent that such Claim is caused by the gross negligence of the Indemnified Parties. 

 

COMPETITION ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • The principal designer MUST be an ASID Georgia Chapter member in good standing.
  • All participants must be individuals or members of an interior design team engaged in the practice of Interior Design. 
  • Any team member with an ASID appellation MUST be an ASID Georgia Chapter member in good standing.
  • Only ASID members will be printed on the award.
  • All entries must be actual, physically installed projects. 

  • Each individual entry requires an entry fee. 

  • Each entry must fall under one of the listed categories. 

  • A project may be entered in multiple categories, but may only win in one.
  • Eligible projects must have been completed within 4 years of the Call for Entry date. 

  • Members are encouraged to resubmit all eligible projects that have been previously entered but not yet awarded. Projects may be re-entered if they fall within the eligibility date. 
  • PROJECTS PREVIOUSLY HONORED BY AN AWARD IN THIS PROGRAM ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ENTRY.
  • Required photography permission electronic signature.
    • Owner Release. 

    • Photographer Release for all photography. 


NO identifying information about the design firm, primary designer, or client may be included in the written descriptions or photos. Self or company Identifying Information within the Design Category Form is an immediate disqualification. Including but it not limited to the following: company descriptions, company firm addresses/stamps, and photos containing people. Business logos may be included in photos if they are integral to the actual built design. 

REMINDER: After submissions are made, changes or modifications are not possible. Please review the OFFICAL COMPETITION RULES & GUIDELINES and follow the instructions for entry to ensure your submissions are correct and meet the requirements. Failure to comply with the rules in the entry guidelines may result in rejection of the submission. 

 

IMAGE SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of four (4) and no more than eight (8) project photos are required per entry. JPG/PNG only. In addition to these, provide at least one (1) floor plan or technical drawing (PDF only) but no more than six (6) per entry. Photographs and other images should include a variety of spaces that give a sense of the overall project area. 

IMAGE QUALITY

Image quality plays a significant role in the judging process and if possible, we strongly recommend you submit professionally shot images. Entrants will need to certify that he/she has obtained permission from the photographer(s) for the use of images in publications.

High quality photography is important as winning entries are published by Modern Luxury (Commercial) as well as Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles (Residential). They must meet the magazine editor’s criteria. At least one landscape view and one vertical are preferred for publications.

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Image Size: All photographs submitted must be at least 300 dpi.
  • Image File Size: Minimum 2 MB (4MB preferred) 10MB maximum.
  • No copyrighted photos without accompany photography and owner release.
  • A maximum of EIGHT (8) project photographs are permitted.
  • A maximum of FOUR additional auxiliary files are permitted, including elevations, details, before or after photos, additional CAD files, and perspective drawings, etc. are permitted. These photographs do not need to be professional quality.
  • Do not include the client name, designer, design firm or project name in the submitted photos. Commercial installed project photos may contain the company logo if integral to the design.

 

RELEASE FORM

All copyrighted materials must authorize use by ASID Georgia Chapter. The Entrant submitting the project must sign an on-line Release Form. Projects used for publication purposes will bear the customary photographer’s credit line. The copyright holder of all photographs must be identified on the Release Form.

 

JUDGING & DESIGN CRITERIA

Each submission is judged anonymously three (3) times by three (3) different professionals from other ASID chapters. Each submission will be judged against the ASID Georgia evaluation criteria – not other submissions. Each submission is judged independently, and the decisions of the judges are final. At judge’s discretion, your project may be considered for another category and all categories may not receive awards. Give each entry the best opportunity to be understood and appreciated by the judges by using careful, concise narrative, and outstanding photos. Make sure submitted photos and the design statement narrative support each other. 

Judging will focus on the following criteria:

  • Design Statement
  • Project Scope, Criteria, Concept and Solution
  • Creative Design Innovation to the End User
  • Functional and Effective Integration of Architectural Elements & Finishes
  • Aesthetics and Excellence of Design
  • Creative and Functional Use of Space 

 

 

STUDENT

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited interior design program at a Georgia post-secondary or technical educational institution during the time of completion of the project.

The principal designer on the project must be an active Student member of the Georgia Chapter of ASID.

Work submitted must have been created in the applicant's capacity as a student, and not as an employee in the design industry. Student intern work is eligible if it is not used by or paid for by a client. Work developed for paying clients will not be accepted.

Recent graduates are eligible to enter as long as the entry was created while the entrant was a student within the last FOUR years of the competition date, and the entry meets all other requirements.

 

COMPETITION ENTRY RULES 

  • Each entry must represent a design project completed from within FOUR years of the competition date.
  • Students may submit any work that they have completed either individually or as a team during the above academic year.
  • The project should be taken from coursework but may have been modified subsequently.
  • The work can be from a studio project, independent study or just a project or concept that appeals to the student.
  • When showing a board as an image, please include one full image of the board, then several other close-up areas of the board for the judges to see the details.
  • The project may be hand drawn, completed with computer aided design, or a harmonious combination thereof.
  • Each entry must fall under one of the listed submission categories.
  • Project may NOT be entered in multiple categories.
  • Work may be developed specifically for this competition or submitted from previous projects or competitions.
  • Individual Entries
    • Students are limited to one (1) entry in each individual competition category.
    • All Individual entries must fully be the work of the entering student.
    • Entrant must completely fill out and sign each online submission form.
  • Group Entries
    • Group submission is limited to one (1) entry in each group competition category.
    • Group submissions cannot exceed five (5) people.
    • At least one student in a group submission must be a current ASID Georgia Chapter Student member.
    • When submitting a project as a team, only one team member is allowed to register the project and must include all team member names on the submission.
    • The design team leader must create the submission account registration and completely fill out and sign each online submission form.
    • Group projects must acknowledge every participating Student Member and clearly state the role of such member.
  • Make sure no identifying information appears in any image or within in file name.

 

IMAGE & FLOOR PLAN SUBMISSION

Project image files should be titled with the project name only. No identifying references such as your name or your school's name should be included.

A minimum of FOUR (4) and no more than EIGHT (8) high resolution jpeg images (dpi of 300 with a maximum file size of 10mb each - must be submitted with each entry. No tiff files.).

Among these, at least one floor plan or technical drawing image is required (PDF format).

Preferred: JPEG images of 300 dpi resolution for display on a large screen.

Photographs and other images should include a variety of spaces that give a sense of the overall project area. Video files and/or animations are not eligible.

All images submitted become the property of the ASID Georgia Chapter.
